Oil Change - How Often is Often Enough

Oil Change - How Often is Often Enough

Oil ChangesOne of the most important things you can do to protect your vehicle's engine is to keep a close eye on both your oil levels and oil filter.
At CarHub, we work hard to educate our customers about the benefits of timely oil changes and regular oil filter replacement.

Let's take a closer look at how both can extend the life of your vehicle, whether it's one of our own brands: Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, RAM, or Fiat or one of the off-make vehicles we carry such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW. We service all the cars we sell.

Oil Changes:

The first thing you should know is that it is critical that you not allow your vehicle to run out of oil. Without a proper amount of oil, your engine may seize. This can cause so much damage that you may require a full engine replacement, which is rarely covered under warranty. With that understood, you must move on to the importance of scheduled oil changes.

Oil that has been in your car for too long is loaded with contaminants like carbon and other metals.

If you leave these contaminants there, they can slowly damage your engine and result in expensive repairs.

Oil also plays other critical roles in keeping your vehicle in peak condition including, lubrication, cooling, preventing metal-to-metal contact, and creating a seal that prevents blow-by and loss of power.

If you're seeing this symbol on your vehicle's dashboard, it's time to look into having that oil replaced.

The best way to avoid any problems is with regular oil changes. There are many opinions out there, about how often you should get an oil change.

At CarHub, we think you should aim at changing your oil every 5,000 kilometers especially if any of the following describe your driving style or conditions.

  • Lots of stop-and-go driving
  • Day or night temperatures drop below 32 F
  • Extensive engine idling
  • Driving in dusty conditions
  • Short trips of less than 15 kilometers
  • 50% of driving is at high speeds during weather over 90 F
  • Towing a trailer or boat
  • Commercial driving
  • Regular off-road or desert operation
  • Operating with E-85 (ethanol fuel)

CarHub offers oil changes at our Service Centres and we'll do everything we can to get you back on the road as quickly as possible.
Oil Filters

While new oil will decrease sludge levels, it is also important that your oil filter is in top shape. As its name suggests, an oil filter removes debris and contaminants from your vehicle's oil. It is critical to check your oil filter every 4,828 km and replace it every 24,140 km or when dirty.

At CarHub North York Chrysler we use high-performance Mopar oil filters that feature internally lubricated seal gaskets, anti-drain back valves, and adhesive-filled double lock seams. You get maximum dirt retention for your vehicle. As always, consult your owner's manual for more specific details about your vehicle's oil change and oil filter.
