Is Your Vehicle Ready For That Fall Road Trip
Posted on January 18, 2021
Nothing beats a road trip with your friends and family. Getting away from work, school, and day-to-day life can be fun and relaxing. However, before you hit the road for a fall road trip, you need to make sure your car, truck, or SUV is ready to handle the rigors of the road and you've done what is needed to prepare a car for a long road trip. It's important to remember that fall weather in Ontario and Canada in general, is not always predictable. Depending on where you are heading, both weather and road conditions can change quickly and drastically. That is why the sales and service experts at North York Chrysler thought it would be a great idea to lay out some of our favorite tips and tricks on how to prep your car for everything a fall road trip can throw at you.
The first thing to do is to visit the Service Centre at North York Chrysler for some basic maintenance on your vehicle. With our Peace of Mind Inspection, we can take a quick, but thorough, look at your vehicle and tell you if there are any pressing issues that need to be handled ASAP. This process includes a full brake inspection, heating and cooling systems check, battery inspection, exhaust system check, and fluid top-up with an oil change. If you only need an oil change, you can take advantage of our exclusive MOPAR Express Lane services.
While we didn't mention it before, inspecting your tires is critical. It is a service we offer, but even if you can't get in to see us, please make sure to check your tires completely. This includes the tread, which if you don't own a gauge, can be tested by simply holding a 25-cent piece upside down in the tread. If it you can see more than a quarter of it sticking out, then it might be time to get new tires. Of course, seeing a professional is the only real way to know for sure.
When you pack for your trip remember to check your vehicle's load capacity. Putting too much weight in your car will reduce fuel economy, put stress on your suspension, and raise the risk of accidents.
If you have kids, you know that long trips can be testing. Remember to pack plenty of snacks and games to keep them occupied. Some of the vehicles at North York Chrysler have built in entertainment systems for your passengers, so those are always helpful! Also, make sure to bring plenty of water. It's a great tip even if you don't have kids.
Don't get too stressed out! It's an easy thing to say and harder to do, but if you give yourself plenty of time, check the weather in advance, and use a GPS device to navigate, you will have a much better trip overall.
While these are only a few things you can do to prepare for a fall road trip, we hope that they will make your next trip as enjoyable as possible. As always, if you want to book an appointment or just ask us any questions, the friendly staff at CarHub is here in Thornhill and Bolton, ON waiting to help in any way possible.
