A Guide To Buying A Pre-Owned Audi
Posted on April 15, 2021
For auto enthusiasts who are ready to speed away into their next adventure, Audi certainly fits the bill. There are many reasons why you should purchase an Audi, which works for both city living and suburban commutes, and there are also various models and trims that make this German luxury auto a true dream on the roads.
History
The upscale automaker with its signature logo bearing four interlocked rings was originally founded by German engineer August Horch, and has quite a lengthy history heading back to the 19th century. Our story starts in 1899, in Cologne, Germany. At this time, Horch’s brave new venture was titled August Horch & Cie. This early step into the German automobile market led Horch to his second company, called Audi Automobilwerke and based in Zwickau, Germany.
While we may think that the term “Audi” may be derived from the “Au” in Augustus, this is only partly true. Interestingly enough, Horch’s name has already been trademarked at the time and wasn’t available for use as a business name, as a result. This led Horch to look for a Latin translation. In Latin, “Horch” (hark!) was “Audi”, leading us to the modern moniker of the upscale car that is still incredibly popular on the roads today.
We can’t forget about the rings, either, of course! Developed in 1932, the four rings were created as a symbol of a new union- the merger that brought us the new Audi! Based in Saxony, these four brands were Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer.
So, what exactly sets Audi apart from other automakers? First of all, Audi has a commitment to technological advancement. First created in 1971 and still relevant today, the company’s motto is “Vorsprung durch Technik” (or “Advancement through Technology”).
Audi and Racing
Audi is also very much a brand focused on racing, and has been bringing its focus on technology to the racing world since 1981. In 2022, Audi is expected to compete in the Dakar Rally, putting its famous electric powertrain with energy converter out onto the racetrack. This marks Audi’s hotly awaited return to the world of racing. This innovative new vehicle is set to make waves with its energy efficient prototype, a novel idea on the race track. With an emphasis on performance vehicles, technology and speed, Audi promises an exhilarating driving experience.
Buying A Pre-Owned Audi
Fortunately for anyone looking to purchase a used Audi, these pre-owned luxury vehicles hold their value well, according to KBB.com. As well, a used Audi will be considerably less expensive than purchasing a brand new Audi. If you do want to invest in a quality used vehicle and do not want a low quality used vehicle which may require countless costly repairs, a used Audi may be a worthy buy.
Audi Quattro
According to Consumer Reports, Audi can be recognized for its Quattro all-wheel drive capability, as well as its interiors, tech features and aesthetic/style. Over the years, Audi has also become more dependable and reliable. Apparently, all the highlights of this automaker are being noticed, as Audi has repeatedly driven away with numerous awards. In 2020, Auto Zeitung magazine awarded Audi five separate category wins in its Auto Trophy 2020 awards. The brand’s A1 Sportback, A3 Sportback, Q2, Q8, and e-tron Sportback all took home first place!
Buying A Used Audi vs New Audi
For those searching for affordable used cars, a used Audi is far more affordable than a brand new one. The brand offers midsize luxury and quality, and a pre-owned one means that you may save a few bucks. Of course, as with any used car, you must check the accident history, vehicle history report, vehicle identification number, service records and regularly see a mechanic to inspect your used Audi (give us a call here at our Service department!). We recommend giving us a call here at CarHub Automotive Group, as opposed to searching for a private seller. Here at CarHub Automotive Group, we are proud to carry a number of used Audis which should suit the needs of any luxury car lovers. Before you drive home after buying a pre-owned Audi, we have compiled a comprehensive guide to all the Audi models and trim levels- here’s everything that you should know. Models:
A3:
The 2015 to 2019 models of the Audi A3 combine the compact size and practicality of a smaller sized hatchback with the design and aesthetic of a luxury vehicle. Audi’s A3 features a 1.8 litre engine for the basic Premium model, along with tech advances like heated mirrors and a backup camera (according to Consumer Reports). This is surely one of the most affordable pre-owned sedans from Audi one can buy.
A4:
With its sedan design, the A4 is created with practicality in mind. Meanwhile, its close relative the Audi A4 Allroad is an off-road station wagon which brings the spirit of adventure to this luxury brand. If you decide on an A4, you can expect to drive off with a 2.0-litre inline-four engine for the sedan, or a 3.0-litre V6 engine for the Allroad. With a panoramic sunroof, leather trim on the seats, heated steering wheel and heated seats and premium car sound system, you will be met with luxury once you take a peek inside.
A7:
Audi developed its iconic Audi A7 Sportback with a signature “sportback” body, which merges a traditional hatchback with a more contemporary, sports car aesthetic. The 2019 model is powered by a V-6 3.0 L engine, and includes a sunroof, a hybrid engine and electric power-assist speed-sensing steering. Meanwhile, the 10 speakers, real time traffic display and two LCD monitors in the front ensure that you’re in for an entertaining drive. As for the luxe interiors of the A7, you’ll be treated to a sleek, leather-covered dashboard, along with microsuede ceilings and door panels, and heated front seats.
Q3:
With its signature Quattro All-Wheel Drive (four wheel drive), the sleek, sophisticated and powerful Audi Q3 includes an Intercooled Turbo Premium Unleaded I-4 2.0 L/121 engine, along with a Multi-Link Rear Suspension with coil springs. Asides from the technical, it also comes loaded with a heated leather steering wheel, valet function and fully carpeted floors. You’ll likely enjoy the 15 speakers and the 680w premium amplifier, for a true party on the roads (along with being a safe drive, of course).
Q5:
The Audi Q5 is an SUV with an Intercooled Turbo Premium Unleaded I-4 2.0 L/121 engine, along with front and rear coil spring suspension and a variety of 4-wheel drive features. These mechanical features include 4-Wheel Disc Brakes w with 4-Wheel anti-lock braking, Front And Rear Vented Discs, Brake Assist, Hill Descent Control, Hill Hold Control and Electric Parking Brake. Just like the Q3, the interiors are sleek and chic with a leather steering wheel and leatherette door trim insert, while the infotainment offerings boast a 10-speaker system.
Q7:
Thinking to drive home in an Audi Q7? This sporty, midsize SUV is best recognized for its functionality as a family vehicle. Its reputation as a trusted kid hauler comes largely from its safety features, such as Audi side assist for blind spot monitoring and Audi pre sense city (which is developed for drivers on crowded, urban streets). If you have a larger family and are hoping to keep the kids entertained on a long drive, there are also 3 LCD monitors included in the vehicle. The Q7 runs on a 4-Corner Auto-Leveling Suspension, with an Intercooled Turbo Gas/Electric V-6 3.0 L/183 engine.
Q8:
As a midsize, crossover coupe, the Audi Q8 combines the spacious, practical nature of the Q7 with style. It features a mild hybrid system, which keeps fuel economy in mind. The Q8 is built on an Intercooled Turbo Gas/Electric V-6 3.0 L/183 engine, with all-wheel drive. Meanwhile, it makes for a pretty sight with its silver-accented wheels, body-coloured front and rear bumpers and its deeply tinted glass. The infotainment system also includes 10 speakers and 3 LCD monitors. Speaking of these Audi speakers, they include optional Bang and Olufsen speakers, which can cost over $6,000 and are a fantastic value. Along with Audi’s LED lights, these speakers are a signature Audi detail and a major feature when it comes to entertainment perks.
R8:
If you have a need for speed (but need to take the highway to commute, rather than the racetrack), you’ll certainly fall in love with the Audi R8. This stunning 2-seater coupe is a supercar which is built on a V-10 engine, packing up to 602 horsepower (for the 2020 model). That’s right, if you love adrenaline and speed, you’re in for a delight with the V-10, a ten cylinder engine which is not commonly found in most vehicles. The R8 shares many similarities with the Lamborghini Huracán, which also has a powerful V-10 engine and a similar chassis as well.
From its sport leather and aluminum steering wheel to its gleaming black grille, the R8 is a superpowered beauty which shares half of its parts with the R8 GT3 LMS racecar. It certainly beats your average sports car, and will bring an adrenaline-pumpin’ feel to your everyday driving!

Trim Levels:
Komfort:
As the basic trim level of Audi, Komfort lives up to its name and promises plenty of comfort, but also won’t break the bank. You are able to upgrade standard features to more advanced features that are available for extra, in many cases.
Progressiv:
The Progressiv is the next trim level up, and as a mid-level trim, it offers more advanced features than the Komfort. Many of the options that are offered as additional upgrades on the Komfort are standard features when we look at Progressiv as a trim.
Technik:
For those who are looking for the ultimate in luxury and high-tech features, the Technik trim level is certainly the way to go. Technik is recognized for its prestige, with advancements such as heated rear seats and premium sound systems.
