2019 Dodge Grand Caravan

Despite the fact SUVs and crossovers are everywhere you look right now, when it comes to transporting up to seven people and their belongings from one place to another as comfortably, conveniently and cost-effectively as possible, this minivan is still a tough act to beat. And if great value and affordability are high on your list of priorities for a new family minivan, the Dodge Grand Caravan is where you should probably start. So, let's take a closer look at what the very latest 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan has to offer.

Interior

The interior of a minivan is really what these vehicles are all about, the room inside, and the Dodge checks all the right boxes for passenger and cargo space. As well as a large space inside the body shell, the Grand Caravan makes the utmost use of that available area thanks to a plethora of great storage solutions for cargo and personal belongings. The Stow 'n' Go seating system is now almost legendary for its flexibility and has become a big factor in making this one of the most versatile interiors in its class. This family minivan is certainly affordable when you think of how much vehicle you're getting for so little money.

Features and equipment

If you're prepared to pay more you can get more standard features and equipment than there is on offer in the 2019 Grand Caravan. But standard kit isn't exactly below-par in the Dodge as even SE models come with power features, remote keyless entry, Stow 'n Go seating system with available tailgate seating, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, a ParkView backup camera and air conditioning throughout all three rows. Safety features that are part of the standard specification includes trailer-sway damping, electronic stability control, seven airbags, daytime running lights and plenty more.

Powertrain

A vehicle like the Dodge Grand Caravan needs to have at least a decent engine under the hood to be capable of handling a full load of passengers and cargo. Although Dodge doesn't offer a choice of powerplant here, that's not a problem because the Grand Caravan offers a 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 developing 283 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. The unit comes mated to a smooth and capable six-speed automatic transmission, and when fully loaded the Grand Caravan doesn't struggle in any way. And when a lighter than full load is onboard, the straight line acceleration can be quite a bit better than many might imagine and the Dodge is also impressively quiet at the same time.

Styling

Dodge is doing good work here with its available Blacktop Package for the Grand Caravan. The exclusive customized blacked-out appearance delivered to the Grand Caravan by the package is standard on the SE Plus trim level and available for the SXT for the 2019 model year. Included are a set of 17-inch polished aluminum wheels with Gloss Black pockets, a Gloss Black grille and black headlamp bezels on the outside. The interior gets the all-black treatment too, including the headliner, door panels and the console. There are premium black cloth seats and door trim panels that have been accented with silver stitching, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel featuring smart silver accent stitching and a leather shift knob complete the look.
