Posted on January 14, 2021
At CarHub, we work hard to tell our customers all about the new and pre-owned vehicles we offer at our dealership. However, we also understand that any educated buyer will do plenty of research before purchasing or leasing a car, truck, or SUV. That's why we like to compare and contrast our outstanding Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, and RAM vehicles with those of our competitors. This time around, we thought we'd take a closer look at the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee and put it up against the 2017 Kia Sorento.
2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the most awarded SUV ever. Yes, you read that right… ever. These awards include 2017 Four Wheel SUV of the Year and the Midsize SUV of the Year, and the year is still young, so more are sure to come. There is a whole host of reasons why people are so excited about the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. First off, this SUV comes in nine different trim levels (nine for 4x4 and seven for 4x2), which gives drivers a wide variety of styles from which to choose. As well, there are four different powerful engines available including:
• 3.6-liter V6 24-valve VVT engine with ESS and an eight-speed automatic 850RE transmission
• 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine which produces an impressive 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque
• 3.0-liter V6 ECODIESEL DOHC engine that puts out 240 horsepower at 3600 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 2000 rpm all while giving you up to 8.4 L/100 km highway in fuel efficiency and a cruising range of 730 miles
Because Jeep owners spend a good deal of time off-road there are a number of different four-wheel drive systems including the Quadra-Trac II system that includes a two-speed transfer case. You also get up to 7,200 pounds (3,265 kg) on some trim levels, four-wheel traction control, active head restraints, and advanced multistage front and supplemental side-curtain front and rear airbags.
As far as comfort and connectivity, the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee can be equipped with rain-sensing windshield wipers, leather trim seats with perforated inserts and an 8.4-inch touchscreen display with Uconnect 8.4 that offers a GPS antenna input, and Integrated Voice Command with Bluetooth.
2017 Kia Sorento
The 2017 Kia Sorento is a popular SUV that comes in three trim levels, seven exterior colours, and forward and all-wheel drive. The Sorento has a choice of three engines including 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder, all-aluminum engine that produces 185 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 178 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. The most powerful engine available is the 3.3-liter, GDI V-6 which puts out 290 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 252 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,300 rpm. The Kia Sorento also has a four-wheel anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, and rear parking sensors. When it comes to towing, the max capacity is 5,000 pounds (2267 kg) and only comes with the 3.3-liter engine. Drivers can also get an optional seven-inch Supervision LCD/TFT instrument cluster and standard heated front seats.
Overall
While both of these mid-sized SUVs have their strong points, it is hard to ignore the versatility, power, and off-road capabilities of the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The best way to discover why the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is winning all the awards and pleasing drivers around the Toronto-area, is by taking one for a test-drive.
